I have dissambled a CD-ROM drive (LG 52x Max) and I have the optical unit (the base sled with all attached to it), from here what can I do?

TBH not a lot, you need a DVD burner to get any powerful laser diodes, having said that there is no reason why you shouldn't build a low powered laser just for fun and practice.

 

Have a look on  laserpointerforums for loads more info to get you up and running.

I see.... for starters i would like to try it!! I will look into it ..... Its a shame I can`t post the photo of what I have, cause I just remember (and found) the pieces of a PlayStation 2 optical unit, so can I work with that? Also found 2 more focusing lens from a PlayStation 1 and another optical CD-ROM units, are they of any use?
