do you think a layer or two of aluminum sheeting bent into a cylinder around the aixiz would be a sufficient heat sink? the aluminum was originaly a heat sink i got out of a broken playstation 1. im rather new to heatsinks as im sure you can tell... im using a airsoft pistol as my host, and i only have about a eighth inch of clearence around the module. however, i have a good bit of space behind the module so i will extend the sink away from the aixiz as far as i can. (about a inch and a half.) im sure it is hard for you to answer this without seeing it, but anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

i wonder, will being in such a confined space prevent the heat from dispercing? its almost entirely sealed off.

As long as the heatsink has mass it will work, if it has a lot of surface area it will work better, most of my heatsinks are enclosed but they work fine with the duty cycles I use the lasers for.

Any heat sink needs to have good thermal contact with the module, any air gap, however small, will allow overheating. There are thermal sealants and epoxy glues that you can use to get good contact.
Google "arctic silver" to see what I mean.
